Make Me a Millionaire

Make Me A Millionaire is the California State Lottery television show.  Sounds cheesy right? Take a closer look.  We were able to convince lottery management to go for a prime time aesthetic and spend the money to get it there.  Unlike most game shows, the lottery has 5 different games that have to smoothly and quickly rotate into place while looking like they fit right in.  To make the challenge more difficult, the set was required to break down and store between shoot dates. To add flexibility, hide game change overs, and add prime time dash, I designed the set around a 40’ LED wall that splits and tracks open to reveal various games.

The  look was intended to be decidedly modern, but with a nod to the classic game show.  I achieved this by using the classic chase lights you might find on Price is Right, but placed the lights over entire surfaces rather than just a line.  Back painted gold plexi-glass covers the surfaces to give a rich lustrous finish.  Reflecting the Make Me a Millionaire theme in a sophisticated but fun way, the light walls are offset by $100 bills etched in plexi-glass.  This gives the backgrounds rich detailing while creating depth as you see through the bills to elements behind.
